Early during my career, an older physician said, “What’s the first thing your patients will say when you’re dead?
“Don’t know,” I said.
“They’ll ask who’s taking his calls?”
His cynical comments were disturbing but indelible.
During this #coronavirus thing, my patients have been calling the office, calling my home and cell phone. Asking how I was, and my family and they told me to take care of myself expressing genuine concern.
My patients are chronically ill and in the high-risk category yet their concern was for me.
